Dobbins Cropped

What does man gain by all the toil at which he toils under the sun? Ecclesiastes 1:3

Dear Friend,

While farming's not "fun" all the time, it's not nearly as toilsome as it was a couple generations ago.  (At least in North America and most of northern Europe.)  That's due primarily to steady technological advancement and adoption over the past century and more recently an explosion of information technology options.  How do you get on the right data track, not just to reduce toil, but also to gain accurate actionable insight into the most critical knowledge of your business?

Prepare to be brought up to speed on November 14 and 15 at the FBS/MASA BOOST/23 Ag Software Success Summit.  We're assembling a world-class team of Ag tech and management accounting experts to inform and inspire.  Plus, you'll get a first-hand look at a new, open, farm management platform and "smart connector" tools to acquire and analyze data.  Click here for more information and here to register

Q&A: Mystery of the Missing Program File

Q.  When I open FBS I get an error message that a file is missing. What do I do?

Sarah 2019o

A. The most common reason for this error is that your virus protection software has deleted a file.  The best practice to always exclude the FBS program directory from scans.  Every virus protection software works a little differently, but usually to get a exclude scans of a folder you:

  1. Open your virus protection software and go to settings.
  2. Find where it the anti-virus settings are.
  3. Select Exclude from Scans.
  4. Browse to the FBS program directory (i.e. FBSWIN 11.8).

It's always a wise idea that when installing a new version of the software to exclude the new program directory from scans.  The order I do the install steps in when updating to a new FBS version is:

  1. Install the new version.
  2. Open virus software and exclude the new program folder from sans.
  3. Open FBS and run Check for Updates.
