Greetings!

Termite Hill

 Termites and Teamwork

Pillars like this one overlooking a western Kenyan sorghum field are the handiwork of millions of termites.  It's literally a chimney used to provide oxygen and regulate the temperature for the underground colony of these voracious cellulose-crunchers and the fungi that clean up after them. It's a remarkable example of "social networking" and problem-solving possible only through God's providential plan.

Now let's segue from insect instinct to human ingenuity.  We work with a remarkable cross-section of innovative crop growers, livestock producers and consultants.  Most of our contact with you is one-on-one analyzing your business and doling out knowledge and training one teaspoon at a time.  What would happen if we could bring together total strangers who share a common passion for excellence in agriculture?  What are the social networking possibilities from "cross-pollinating" strengths, experiences and technologies in order to get better together?

That's our goal for the FBS 2013 User Conference.  Here's what some of the attendees from last year's conference told us:

 "Awesome. Great growth. Very interactive!"

"A very informative seminar."

"Very good-great variety of topics-something for
everyone."

"A great place to exchange ideas and receive new
information that can be implemented on the farm."

"Great to meet the staff and ask specific questions."

These folks also provided us tips for making this year's conference even more valuable.  Please read the accompanying articles and consider joining us!

Q&A of the Month--Getting to FBS Through the Internet
Sarah Dixon
Sarah Dixon, FBS Technical Services Manager.

 Q.  I want to be able to access my FBS program and data through the Internet using my laptop or tablet.  Is that possible?

A. Yes.  There are three different ways you can do this:

1. Switch to "Hosted" software through the AgCompass server.  If you sign up for this option you access your data through a remote desktop connection (RDP).  This connection can be established anywhere you have access to the Internet through acomputer or mobile device.  By using the hosted version you don't need to worry about updating your program files or making backups as AgCompass does that for you as well as providing password security for your data.

2.  The second option is to purchase a network license from FBS and install Terminal Server on your own server.   This usually requires some outside technical help to configure and maintain, but once that is done you'll have a true multi-user system that can be accessed from anywhere.

3. If no one else needs to use your computer while you're working on FBS, there are also several other remote access programs such asGoToMyPC and LogMeIn that provide remote access to your pc through any device.

Just a reminder:   options #2 or #3 will likely require specialized technical help beyond the scope of what the FBS Software Support Department provides.

Sincerely,

FBS Systems
