PORK$HOP.08 TO FOCUS ON KNOWN COSTS/UNKNOWN RISKS

PORK$HOP.08:  Where industry leaders and experts create knowledge synergy.
Simply emulating industry practices or "managing by habit" are not sustainable strategies in light of the new cost squeeze from feed, sow housing, buildings, energy and disease.

The 16th Annual PORK$HOP seminar, sponsored by CPA firm Latta, Harris, Hanon & Penningroth, LLP and FBS Systems, Inc. will help you adapt your expectations and business practices to today's extraordinary agricultural environment.  The flexible format allows you to select the topics to fit your interests and schedule:
  •   FBS production and managerial accounting software training.
  •   Update from the industry's most comprehensive cost of production benchmarks.
  •   Timely market outlook and risk management strategies from top experts.
  •   Using a real-time cash-flow/pig-flow/feed-flow decision-support system.

PORK$HOP.08 returns to the state-of-the-art DeWaay Commerce Park facility in Clive, Iowa, on Wednesday, June 4th, one day prior to the World Pork Expo.

MACRO INPUT ADDED TO CROP AUDIT CE

Crop Audit CE works on any Window Mobile/Pocket PC/CE device... ...currently available FREE on the JETT handheld for rugged service and keypad entry.

FBS has just released an update for its Crop Audit CE handheld software that significantly simplifies and speeds up field data entry through input "macros."  For example, a field "pass" that includes planting, fertilizer, a chemical tank mix and multiple operations and operators can be recorded with as few as four taps on the device's screen.  If rates or products change from the original macro "recipe" those changes can be made in a few seconds with additional screen taps.  Macros defined in the Crop Audit Plus desktop software automatically sync with the handheld device along with fields, centers, projects and lists of seed, chemicals and fertilizers.  Data recorded in the handheld automatically merge back into the desktop or server database.

Crop Audit CE (and its companion software, Smart Feeder CE) operate on any Windows Mobile or Pocket PC/CE device including smart phones.  Base price is $495.00 with volume discounts and optional multi-farm versions available.  While supplies last Crop Audit CE is free with the purchase of the JETT handheld computer (see picture above).  Existing Crop Audit CE users who are on a current FBS service plan can receive this update via e-mail by contacting sales@fbssystems.com.  For more information on any of these products, call 800.437.7638, extension 1.

SOFTWARE Q&A – WITH Q'S FROM YOU, OUR CLIENTS!

Send us your questions/problems–be they short, long, simple or downright frustratin'!–about SeRVware and we'll handle them right "on the air" for the benefit of all.

Q.

I'm getting ready to replace my computer.  What do I need to know about Windows Vista to make it work with my FBS software?
A. Our FBS clients have not experienced problems running current FBS software (7.9) on computers with Windows Vista operating systems.  Older FBS versions, however, will not work.  FBS currently recommends the following:

 1.   Based on guidelines from the computer press we do not recommend machines with either Vista Home Basic or Vista Home Premium.  However, some of our users are successfully running FBS on Vista Home.  However, we do not recommend it.
 2.   We recommend Vista Business.
 3.   The machine configuration should be as follows (this is Microsoft's recommendations for Vista):
 •  Dual Core processor AMD or Intel 1.5Ghz or higher
 •  1GB of memory required, 2GB recommended
 •  80GB hard drive required, 150GB recommended
 4.   Your internet connection is important, too.  We strongly encourage a broadband internet connection.  DSL, Wireless or Cable.  This is needed for software updates.
 5.   The Windows XP operating system is still a more robust and compatible operating system than Vista Home and is still preferred by corporate customers.  Therefore Microsoft has pushed back XP Professional's "retirement" date to June 30th, 2008.
