FBS SYSTEMS USER CONFERENCE REVIEW
ANYONE HOME AGAIN?
CLIENTS CORNER
SeRVware Q & A SECTION

YOU DON'T JUST LISTEN TO TRAINERS AT FBS USER CONFERENCES, YOU LEARN!

Ev Chambers (finally!) demoed how AgCompass is providing accounting access for their clients over the Internet and revealed a managerial accounting system for dairy operations.     Long-time U.C. favorite, Daryl Ellis, provided practical, first-hand knowledge of managerial accounting in the real world of agriculture.
"Better understanding of how cost/group/projects fit together and how that fits with financial reporting." CPA for Grain/Cattle Producer-OH (first time at UC)

"Good discussion with Ev (Chambers) about setting up network, and concerns and issues in dealing with use of FBS on network … and how to get clients to buy in."  Accountant-OH

"Daryl's (Ellis) talk with comparisons on e.CLIPSE with other reports is priceless-being able to verify quickly that the reports are accurate."  Grain/Hog Producer-IL

Grain/Cattle Producer-ND (another first time attendee) said, "Thank you!  I would be interested in a list of the people who attended this seminar, the organizations that they represent and possible contact numbers."

FBS extends a big "Thank You" to you, all attendees and our presenters, Ev Chambers, Bill Stangel and Daryl Ellis, for helping FBS in another successful U.C.  You've noticed how the interaction between our clients enriches the entire learning experience.  A lively exchange of information between clients characterizes all FBS training meetings.  In effect everybody learns—presenters and clients.

"A great place to learn with people that are in this thing for the long haul," concludes Grain/Cattle Producer-OH.  What more can we say?  Thanks again and we'll see you next year!

Note:  We also plan to show excerpts from this session with e.farmSMART readers in coming issues.  In the meantime, we invite you to download and view some of these Powerpoint presentations made at U.C. 2004.

ANYONE HOME?, PART II
We keep reminding ourselves, "Technology is our friend, technology is our friend."  Well, our "best friend" bit us again.  If you remember last month, we alerted you that we were experiencing chronic hardware problems with our phone system-requiring numerous service calls by the phone people and creating an unpredictable experience for our customers.

The hardware problems were finally solved, but the voice mail software—irony of ironies—was not correctly reinstalled.  The result?  Forty-four of your support or sales calls in late August and early September were sent to the "limbo" voice mail box.  If you were among those unfortunate callers, please accept our sincere apologies.  Our phone technology is back to 100%... we hope!

CLIENT'S CORNER
•   In The News!
Farm Futures magazine is back with a vengeance after a five year hiatus with two articles featuring FBS users in the October 2004 Issue.  These articles should be available soon at: Farm Futures
Read how the Lepley brothers—Jim, Jeff, Craig and Dave—are "Digging deeper" using management accounting from FBS e.CLIPSE in their crop, cattle and trucking operation in Bellevue, Ohio.

Also read comments regarding managerial accounting from Galt Iowa farmer and Farm Financial Standards Council member, Ron Swanson.
Also long-time FBS "power user," Dave Weber, Geneseo, Illinois, describes how he "Paints profits," by linking Lotus 1-2-3 with TransAction Plus to monitor and manage his grain and custom beef feeding operation.
Harlan Downing's Colby, Kansas, operation was the cover story for the September, 2004, Farm Journal.  He uses auto-guidance to control traffic in his strip-tillage corn, soybeans, wheat and milo.  Read more by clicking on the link below:  AGWeb

Finally, Dr. Harlan Hughes directly recognizes the contributions of Martin Jorgensen, Ideal, SD to computerized beef records and indirectly compliments Daryl Ellis in the September, 2004 Beef Magazine

SOFTWARE Q&A – WITH Q'S FROM YOU, OUR CLIENTS!

Send us your questions/problems–be they short, long, simple or downright frustratin'!–about SeRVware and we'll handle them right "on the air" for the benefit of all.

NOTE:  We'll soon be adding an index to all of our support Q&As on our web site.  Stay tuned.

Q.

On several reports I have the option to choose the method of date cash exchanged.  What does that mean and how does it affect the report data?
a. The Date Cash Exchanged option is included on the 1099 Report, Account Summary Report, Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Ledger Account Detail Report, Schedule F, Statement of Cash Flow, Trial Balance and the User Defined Report.  There are 3 options.  If you do not have the Accounts Payable or Accounts Receivable module you should choose option 1.
    1.    Use entries in time period.  Uses the original invoice date that the expense accounts were posted through accounts payable or income accounts were posted through accounts receivable.  It also includes all journal and adjustment entries dated during the report time period.
    2.    A/P & A/R on date paid.  Uses the date cash was exchanged to pay an invoice as the period the expense or income is recognized (cash basis), but ignores adjustment entries and journal entries.
    3.    #2 + Journal + Adjustment entries.  Uses the same logic as option #2 but includes journal and adjustment entries.
