FBS SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES SeRVware 7.6 – OUR 25TH ANNIVERSARY UPGRADE!

Version 7.6 includes a built-in task manager (window on the left) that permits you to quickly toggle between MIS functions.
A friend of mine once joked, "All my life I've wished I were 21!"  Of course, the older he got, the less of a joke it became.  Although 21 may be considered by many to be the true "golden" age, we prefer silver.
Let's look at the events of the past four years that have enriched our soil, producing bushels of benefits for clients.  Starting with the fact that FBS will be 25 in 2005, we add …
•   Windows versions for Smart Breeder, Smart Feeder, and Farm/Trust Manager Plus
•   Consultant/trainers John McNutt and Daryl Ellis
•   e.CLIPSE managerial accounting certification by the NPPC
•   e.CLIPSE expansion to swine, crops, beef and dairy
•   MaCH 1.0 interface with SSToolbox GIS
•   PigWINGS free Windows reports for PigCHAMP
The seeds of ongoing improvement that lift you to new levels yearly are planted in SeRVware by your upgrades.  There's no letup with new Version 7.6.  Among its 400 changes are:
•   New menu and task manager (see screen above)
•   Cut and paste reports directly to the Windows clipboard
•   Automatically builds report "templates" from chart of accounts
•   More import options (Excel, yield monitors, packers, feed mills, grain tickets)
•   Greater reporting flexibility
•   New MS SQL Server option
Click here to view the major changes in version 7.6.

Version 7.6 is being shipped to all VIP TiMEsavr subscriber clients this month.  Priority clients will receive 7.6 in November and Basic subscribers in December.

Q.

My hard drive crashed, and I have reinstalled my FBS programs, but I don't have current backups.  What can I do?
a. Everything will have to be reentered from the point of your last backup.  You must make regular backups of your data to protect your information investment.  The backup routine allows you to save data to floppy, zip disks or hard drive for any combination of FBS programs and calendar years.  You should make a full backup at least once a day and even more frequently if you don't want to risk losing data when (not if!) your hard disk crashes.  A good rule of thumb is to make a new backup after every four hours of data entry.
For FBS Data:
    1.    At the FBS Home Screen, click Utilities
    2.    At the Utilities Menu, click Save Data
    3.    Click the appropriate check box:
           •   Setup files.  Normally you will want to leave this box checked to backup all the Setup Menu definitions (centers, vendors, accounts, accounting preferences, etc.) for the selected company file.
           •   Accounting records allows you to save TransAction Plus data for the selected company file and current year.
           •   Crop records allows you to save Crop Audit data for the selected company file and current year.
           •   Feeding records allows you to save Smart Feeder data for the selected company file and current year.
           •   Accounting budget files allows you to save all accounting budget (XLS) files in the data directory.
           •   Save ALL years allows you to back up data for all selected FBS programs for all years.
           •   Zip files (recommended) compresses data so more will fit on the backup disk as well as speeds the backup process.
Click the change destination button to select which drive on which to save data.
To save to a CD - The save data routine will not work on a CDR drive but may work on a CDRW drive.  You need to designate the correct drive destination.  If you have a CDR or the FBS routine doesn't work on your CDRW use the software with your CD drive to backup your X:\FBSWIN\DATA (Windows) directory to a CD (where X is your drive designation).  Or you can zip the files through the FBS save data routine and save them to another directory on your hard drive.  Then copy that zip file to your CD.  With some CDRW drives you can also drag and drop or copy and paste the data directory through Windows Explorer.  You can use the save routine within FBS to save to a zip drive.

CAUTION: all existing data on a floppy disk is overwritten.  The backup zip file is named with the 3 initials of the company followed by an underscore and the date (XXX_102904).

For Payroll Data: You must use the Red Wing Payroll Utility Program.  It should be an icon on your desktop.  If it isn't, go to Start, All programs, Red Wing Windows folder, and Red Wing Payroll Utility.  It requires the same user name and password as Payroll.  Choose Backup/Restore.  Select the Backup operation and choose your company ID from the list.  Left click in the Destination field and select the drive on which to save data.  Then click on Open and Start. The name of the file will be XXX102904.zip where XXX are your company ID followed by the date.  To save to a CD, follow the instructions above.
