SUCCESSFUL FARMING MAGAZINE TO PROMOTE MANAGERIAL ACCOUNTING THROUGH STORIES AND WORKSHOPS

Dan Looker, Successful Farming Magazine Business Editor, announces an upcoming series of articles and workshops on managerial accounting to attendees of the 2007 FBS User Conference in Moline, Illinois earlier this month.

The 2007 FBS User Conference participants were treated to a surprise announcement by Dan Looker, Successful Farming Business Editor.  The prominent farm magazine will be publishing a series of six articles on managerial accounting.  Four of those will feature farmers' (including FBS e.CLIPSE users) experiences with managerial accounting (MA), covering both their frustrations and the benefits they've seen.  The other two will be columns by members of the Farm Financial Standards Council.

SF is also planning a series of meetings and workshops on MA.  Tentatively they will start with six evening dinners—likely in December, 2007—that will include a talk by immediate past FFSC president Ron Swanson.  "We plan to follow up with three workshops of roughly a half-day, hopefully in January," says Looker.  (Past FFSC President and Texas A&M TEPAP instructor, Dick Wittman, is tentatively scheduled to do the presentations.)

Asgrow is sponsoring the workshops, which will be open to anyone.

"I'm in complete agreement with the FFSC goals and methods on this project," Looker emphasizes.  "We want to encourage the farmers and ranchers who might benefit from MA to consider it, without hyping it, making it seem too easy, or overstating the benefits.  We would also be delighted if a few farmers who have already shifted over to MA would attend to network and share their experiences.  I agree with Ron Swanson, Ev Chambers and others who are concerned that the current run up in land and input costs is going to take some farms and ranches under.  As far as I'm concerned, last year was a good time to start MA."

FBS SUPPORT LINE TIP

Here's a tip for the fastest way to get through to a "live" person on the FBS support line this time of year:  Press #2 and leave a message in the support voice mail box.  Unless you enjoy listening to our local country music station, you'll only delay receiving service by "camping out" on hold.  We return calls in the order they're received, prioritized by support plan (Corporate and VIP first, then Priority, Basic and finally expired support contracts).

SOFTWARE Q&A – WITH Q'S FROM YOU, OUR CLIENTS!

Send us your questions/problems–be they short, long, simple or downright frustratin'!–about SeRVware and we'll handle them right "on the air" for the benefit of all.

Q.

How do I know if my problem is hardware or software related?
A. This is often hard to diagnose.  We generally get the call because we are available and English is our first language!  Seriously, it can be very frustrating for you and for us.

Recently we dealt with a problem that was ongoing for several weeks.  The client would suddenly get blown out of the program or the computer even would reboot.  The program he was using was "memory hungry," but he had a gig of RAM.  At first, our application was the only software that triggered the problem until suddenly other programs also began causing his computer to reboot.

On that day, the outside temperature happened to be 100 degrees, and his farm office didn't have air conditioning.  He called his local computer technician (hardware), and they discovered that the cooling fan on his CPU wasn't working properly, causing his CPU to overheat.  The problem was solved by simply fixing the cooling fan (and air conditioning his office).

More information can be found on computer processing temperatures at www.hardwaresecrets.com/article/143.
