PORKSHOP.2006:  TAKE TIME TO THINK AHEAD

Manage your margins through the windshield, not the rearview mirror.
Simply emulating industry practices or relying on traditional historical reports are not sustainable strategies in today's dynamic pork environment.

The 14th Annual PORKSHOP seminar, sponsored by CPA firm Latta, Harris, Hanon & Penningroth, LLP and FBS Systems, Inc. will prepare you for the opportunities and challenges on the road ahead.  First, you'll hear how you and your lender can prepare for the coming cycle low, explore the next horizon of swine production: using real-time data to manage the growth process.  Next, you'll pinpoint your competitive position through cost benchmarks and discover how to supplement traditional "backward" views (closeouts and financial statements) with interactive production cost modeling and executive "dashboards."  Finally, you'll be able to choose between a forward-looking financial session on estate planning or technical breakout sessions on the latest concepts in information management.

The seminar runs from 9:30 am to 6:00 pm on Wednesday, June 7th and features these speakers:

Topic Speaker
Lending Strategies Coming into Cycle Lows Lee Fuchs, Vice President, Capital Markets for Farm Credit Services of Missouri
Managing the Growth Process Using Real-Time Data Michael Brumm, PhD., Professor of Animal Science at the University of Nebraska
Key Factors Leading to High Levels of Profitability and 2005 Financial Benchmarks Mark Penningroth, CPA, Latta, Harris, Hanon & Penningroth, L.L.P., Tipton, Iowa
John McNutt, MBA, LLHP
Real-Time Sales Cost Monitoring and KPI Executive Reporting Norm Brown, President, FBS Systems, Aledo, Illinois
The Seven Deadly Sins of Estate Planning (and Why You've Committed More than One of Them) C. Christy Barton, J.D., The Barton Law Firm, L.L.C., Columbia, Missouri

FBS Technical Sessions
•   Maintaining an executive "dashboard"
•   "Worst-case scenario" budgeting
•   Managerial accounting topics
•   New closeout report possibilities
•   Which is best:  local or hosted software?

PORKSHOP.2006 will be held at the Renaissance Savery Hotel in Des Moines, Iowa, on June 7th, one day prior to the World Pork Expo.  Register by Friday, June 2nd, for substantial savings.  To download a seminar brochure, click here

SOFTWARE Q&A – WITH Q'S FROM YOU, OUR CLIENTS!

Send us your questions/problems–be they short, long, simple or downright frustratin'!–about SeRVware and we'll handle them right "on the air" for the benefit of all.

Q.

How do I update FBS program files from the website?
a. A new feature in FBS 7.7 is the ability to automatically check for updated files.  You cannot update files between versions (i.e. from 7.6 or older versions to 7.7) and you can no longer go to the FBS website and click on updates to get new program files (with the exception of Payroll).  To check for and get updates:
1.    If you are running a network version, make sure that everyone else is logged off of FBS.
2.    Go to Utilities/Check for Updates.  You will be asked if you want to connect to the FBS website to get the latest program changes.  Click on Yes.
3.    You will see a list of program files with Current and New dates.  The files highlighted in green are the ones that will be updated.
4.    The first time you go to update files you must click on the Edit Company button on the right and fill out the form.  The information is saved so you only need to do this once (unless your e-mail address changes).
5.    At the bottom of the screen you can determine the number of days until you are prompted to check for updates again.  We recommend that you update at least once a month.  Also notice the number of files to update.
6.    After you have saved the company information then click on the Update button.
7.    The message "Update Complete, Click OK to Continue" will be displayed when the download is complete.
8.    The time to download depends on the number of files and the speed of your Internet connection.  You should notice an hourglass.  If nothing happens when you click on the Update button check to see that your company information is saved through the Edit Company button.  If the information is ok, you may need to temporarily disable your anti-virus software or change your Internet setting to allow updates from our website.
9.    After clicking OK to continue you will be taken back to the Select Company screen.  (If you are running on a network, you will need to log on.)
10.    If you get an error during the download or installation, just click OK and try the process again.  (Check to make sure that no one else is currently running FBS.)  If you continue to get errors please contact our support department by e-mail support@fbssystems.com or phone 800-437-7638 ext 2.
